I found Gracie at work while I was in Puerto Rico. She was just hanging around the Oil spills area begging for food, and I just knew that this environment was not good for her. She was very skinny, and all I wanted to do was love her. So one day I decided to take her home with me.I named her Gracie after Princess Grace, since she was my Princess.
She was very scared and skiddish and I am sure that had a lot to do with the fact that she had been a stray for so long. She never did fully warm up to me, but she had gotten better over time. When she first came home with me she hid in my closet for a couple of days. She was not too sure about the whole staying with me thing. But over time she got over that and decided to make herself at home. She never was a "cuddly" cat persay but I knew that she appreciated me taking care of her, knowing that she would always have a meal and clean place to stay.
I felt really bad for her because I know that she had been owned by someone since she was spayed, so this really angered me. I just don't know how people can do that. It is such a terrible thing to do to a living creature who has formed a bond with you, gotten used to living with you, become demosticized, and then you throw them out in the wild where they may not know how to take care of themselves.
Over time I noticed that she was not keeping all of her food down, and was infact throwing up all of her food. I took her into the vet and found out that she had heartworms, and would infact die because of this. There was nothing that they could do for her. I was so saddened by this. She had lived such a hard life. I intended to give her a wonderful life for as long as I could. She did finally get a little bit better, and was able to keep her food down, and even began to play as show in one of the pictures below. I had a pet Gecko (he ate bugs in the apartment) and she found him and killed him!! LOL
As my time neared an end in Puerto Rico I had to find Gracie and new home before I left. I am in the military and I had to go to a school, so I could not take her with me. I was not going to abandon her, not again in her lifetime. I left her with some people that I work with so that she would be taken care of. I do not know what became of her, but I do so hope that she is well. I miss her dearly, and hope that I was able to bring her some joy in her lifetime.
