Women of The War of 1812
I was unable to find very many women who were prominent during the War of 1812
however this is probably due to the fact that numerous records were not
keep of women who participated during the earlier wars. If you do have any information
the please Email Me.
Lucy Brewer
Born: Unknown
Died: Unknown
In 1812, aboard the USS Constitution(AKA "Old Ironsides"), Lucy Brewer
was serving aboard as a Marine known as George Baker. She disguised
herself as a man so that she could fight aboard the "Old Ironside",
and was involved in the battle and defeat against the HMS Guerriere.
She served on the ship for three years, and None of the soldiers
aboard knew that she was a woman. I have yet to find out how she was
discovered, however I do know that the Marine Corps did not want to
acknowledge that Lucy was a Marine, but reluctantly they finally did.
